About Hall and Oates
Hall & Oates get call to the Hall
It has been over 40 years since Daryl Hall and John Oates have recorded their very first album. In other words, it was past time they were recognized for their long-standing musical accomplishments. That recognition finally came with their for sure deserved affiliation io the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Decades didn’t dampen demand for this duo
For decades, Daryl Hall and John Oates have carried the flag as the best selling duo in the whole music history. How they achieved that feat, recognized by the RIAA, was no small task. These guys have been plugging away in the music industry for years, with a fan base that extends beyond people snatching up their records and digitally downloading their music. It extends to a next generation of artists who see Hall & Oates as the standard-bearers for the sound forever known as “rock and soul.”
It takes a special artist to achieve their biggest fame in the 70’s, and 30 years later still be recording, touring and coloring outside the lines of distinct styles and genres. That drive and ambition has allowed them to achieve milestones like 2003’s affiliation to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, or being named Billboard Magazine’s most successful duo of the whole rock era. At the time when reputation is everything, gaining credibility among today’s most popular artists has opened the door to the very new legion of Hall & Oates fans.
What have Hall & Oates done lately to run with such mainstream recognition? They’ve rounded the bases in today’s pop culture circuit, beginning with Oates’ performance at the World Series in 2008. A couple of months later, “The Daily Show” along with Jon Stewart came calling. And on March, 2009, they performed together on ABC’s juggernaut “Dancing with the Stars.”
On October 13, 2009, a four-CD Hall & Oates box set named “Do What You Want, Be What You Are” was released. Two weeks later, the duo helped close down the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia, and in spring 2010 they went on a U.S. tour and appeared on FOX’s “American Idol” final season. Finally, they hit the NBC reality singing competition called “The Voice,” performing on that show on May 8, 2012.
