Lenny Kravitz sings from a place deep inside that instills his songs with a thick layer of emotion. Whether he’s singing a tear-jerking ballad, like his hit ‘It Ain’t Over til It’s Over,’of 1991 or rocking hard on his hit ‘Fly Away’ of 1998 he does not even make an attempt to hide his innermost feelings. That is one reason his fans try to get Lenny Kravitz tickets as soon as it is only possible. They know what they’ll get: a night that spans the emotional range, with songs of love, sadness, anger and joy.
Known as an artist who has touched nearly every genre of music, Lenny Kravitz built the back half of his career on the strength of his 1993 album, titled “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” The project, that is said to be the finest of Kravitz’s career, was highlighted by its up-tempo title track. Not only was this project a massive hit, but it made Kravitz a household name and a concert headliner.
Since that time, Kravitz has been a record producer, actor, arranger and famed multi-instrumentalist. He is one of very few artists who has played drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and percussion during the recording process, and for what had been nominated and later won American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and so many others. He also captured the Grammy Award 4 years in a row for “Best Male Rock Vocal Performance” from 1999 to 2002.
In 2011, Kravitz rode another wave on his successful career when he performed on U2’s 360 Tour as the opening act . It came a year after Kravitz got in front of the camera for a role on HBO’s long-running series Entourage, which served as a springboard to Kravitz joining the cast and crew for one of the most anticipated movies of year 2012 – “The Hunger Games.” The movie was released in March, 2012.
By the fall, it was obvious that Kravitz had began to focus more of his career on both big and small screen ventures. On November 23, 2012 it was announced he will play Marvin Gaye in a biopic about the late R&B singer. The movie will focus on Gaye’s final years, when he battled drug addiction and attempted to restart his career before in 1984 he was killed by his father. It will be Kravitz’s first leading role, putting his music (and any touring) on hold for 2013.
Lenny Kravitz’s rock career has brought him from an aspiring singer/songwriter who plays several instruments and whose songs are covered by many other hit- makers, to record producer and arranger, to actor, and most recently interior designer and clothing designer. Born in 1964 in New York City, Kravitz emulated rocker Prince early on, but soon found his own sound and style by the time he recorded his first album named Let Love Rule in 1989. His 1993 album named Are You Gonna Go My Way catapulted him to international stardom, and he has continued producing songs with many influences and varied styles since, including his latest album of 2011 titled Black and White America. With several Grammy Awards and other awards to his name, Lenny Kravitz continues to rock concert crowds with his grinding guitar, and a versatile voice that he can deliver with a feathery falsetto or a hard edge.
